Construction of the new playground will begin the week of September 16, 2024.

The City of Barrie is pleased to announce the final preferred design concept for the future playground improvements at East Bayfield Park. For PDF versions of the plan, please also see the Project Documents Section in the right column.

East Bayfield Community Park is 3.9 hectares located in Barrie’s north end. The property is home to the East Bayfield Community Centre and the Barrie Sports Dome. Additional amenities include an accessible playground, a baseball field (illuminated), a soccer field, a basketball court (illuminated) and a tennis facility (illuminated) that accommodates three play courts. Although the main parking area for the park is nearest the community centre, there are two parking lots that can service the park.

The City of Barrie is making playground improvements at East Bayfield Community Park.

East Bayfield Community Park playground improvements are part of the City's Annual Playground Revitalization Program, which aims to redevelop existing ‘traditional’ play spaces to meet the needs and interests of the surrounding communities, and offer new, vibrant and engaging experiences for all visitors.

The goals of the Playground Revitalization are:

  1. Improve on an attractive destination for community members to spend more time outdoors;
  2. To better support a multitude of open space programming and use;
  3. Connect visitors with nature and their community;
  4. Promote community events and initiatives; and,
  5. Encourage social, physical and mental engagement of persons of all ages and abilities.
