Public engagement for the Culture Master Plan has concluded. Results will be used to guide the development of the plan, which is expected to be complete by December 2024.
The City of Barrie is updating its Culture Master Plan, "Building a Creative Future," aiming to establish an Integrated Public Art Strategy for the city. These initiatives aim to shape the city's cultural landscape over the next decade by guiding decisions, policies, programs and investments to enhance the local creative sector.
Project Timeline:
Phase 1: Current Context and Background Research January – April 2024
Phase 2: Community and Stakeholder Engagement April – July 2024
Phase 3: Drafting the Culture Plan Update and Public Art Strategy July – October 2024
Phase 4: Finalizing and Delivering Culture Plan Update and Public Art Strategy October - December 2024
Engagement: Community feedback was gathered through online Community and Culture Sector Surveys. The surveys closed June 17, 2024. The community was also encouraged to participate through several self-guided and in-person engagements throughout May and June 2024. Engagement locations included:

UPlift Black Centre for Social Justice & Inclusion
MacLaren Art Centre
