The City of Barrie’s annual Business and Employer Data Survey is conducted by the City’s Economic and Creative Development Department in Invest Barrie. The goal of the survey is to collect up-to-date business data and create a comprehensive list of all Barrie businesses operating in the City’s employment and commercial areas that can be broken down by industry.
The Business and Employer Data Survey began in 2021. The City now has four years of information and is establishing a solid foundation to collect quality data about the economic landscape of Barrie moving forward.
The 2025 Business & Employer Data Survey will launch on May 7, 2025.
Data collected from this survey will be used to update the City’s online business directory. The information is also used to monitor economic trends, support business retention and expansion, forecast infrastructure needs, and assist with transportation planning.
Survey participants get a FREE listing in an annual business directory and gain access to information on local businesses.
City staff and a team of summer students visited businesses from May to August 2024 to verify and update the information within the Business and Employer Data Survey. The 2024 survey achieved an exceptional response rate of 85.4%. We thank all businesses that participated in our survey!
The data for 2024 is available publicly in an aggregate form, and the full report can be accessed on the Invest Barrie website. More information on survey results is provided in the staff memo that was provided to Barrie City Council on December 11, 2024.
