The City of Barrie’s annual Business and Employer Data Survey is conducted by the City’s Economic and Creative Development Department in Invest Barrie. The goal of the survey is to collect up-to-date business data and create a comprehensive list of all Barrie businesses operating in the City’s employment and commercial areas that can be broken down by industry.
The Business and Employer Data Survey began in 2021. The City now has five years of information and is establishing a solid foundation to collect quality data about the economic landscape of Barrie moving forward.
The 2025 Business & Employer Data Survey is closed. This year's survey was open from May 8 until September 30, 2025. Thank you to all who participated!
Over the past four months, City staff and a team of summer students visited businesses in the city's commercial and industrial areas to verify and update the information within the Business and Employer Data Survey. Businesses also had the option of completing the survey online.
Data collected from the Business & Employer Data survey is used to update the City’s online business directory. The information is also used to monitor economic trends, support business retention and expansion, forecast infrastructure needs, and assist with transportation planning.
Survey participants get a FREE listing in an annual business directory and gain access to information on local businesses.
The data from the 2024 survey is available publicly in an aggregate form, and the report can be accessed on the Invest Barrie website.
