Barrie is actively working to remove barriers and improve accessibility in our policies, programs and facilities, while working create an inclusive city for people with disabilities, older adults and seniors.

The City’s Multi-year Accessibility Plan and Age-Friendly Community Plan both aim to support community development and intensification for people in all ages and stages of their lives by identifying, preventing and/or removing barriers to accessibility.

As such, these plans undergo reviews periodically to ensure we are continuing to meet the needs and expectations of people living in Barrie, and that the legislated requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act are met.

Help us update both the Multi-year Accessibility Plan and Age-Friendly Community Plan! Tell us what you believe is needed to make Barrie more accessible and age-friendly.

Please complete the Seniors & Accessibility Survey to share your experiences with Barrie's places, spaces, programs and services. The survey is open until November 1, 2024, for anyone to complete - if you’re a person with a disability or a senior who visits, lives, studies or works in the City of Barrie, someone who cares or advocates for people with a disability or age-related concerns or are passionate about making our community more accessible.

Feedback gathered through this survey and from the monthly Seniors and Accessibility Advisory Committee, coupled with Provincial legislation, will help update both the City’s Multi-year Accessibility and Age-Friendly plans.

While this survey covers accessibility and age-friendly community planning, it is important to note that anyone with an interest in creating accessible and inclusive spaces for community members of all ages and stages of life can and should participate. We need to hear from a diversity of voices to help us ensure we are removing barriers to inclusion and continuing to foster an accessible and inclusive community for many years to come!

The survey was available online, and hard copies could be filled out at Service Barrie (70 Collier Street), Allandale Recreation Centre, Parkview Centre, East Bayfield Community Centre and Peggy Hill Team Community Centre.

To view the survey results, please refer to the document section of our project page.
